Clive

Date: June 26, 2026

Record producer and executive Clive Davis died on Monday at 94. As the head of Columbia Records and founder of Arista Records, he shaped more careers than almost anyone in the history of popular music. Guest DJ Kathleen put together this list of artists whose paths he crossed: he signed Janis Joplin after seeing her at Monterey Pop in 1967, brought Springsteen to Columbia at 22, moved Aretha Franklin to Arista and revived her career, discovered Whitney Houston, and championed Santana's comeback. Every track on this list connects back to him in some way. Come dance with us and celebrate one man who sat behind a desk, but who heard something in all of them before the rest of us did.
