Our Artists

Shake It So runs on music. The Our Artists program is our way of acknowledging that the musicians behind that music matter. We believe in partnership, in celebrating art, and in the transformational power of song.

We provide direct financial support to featured artists and credit their work prominently at our events and online. As a registered 501(c)(3), we are also eligible to pursue grants that expand this support over time. We’re starting small — but we’d rather take one step than none. If you’d like to help grow this work, you can make a contribution here.

Artists don’t owe us their music. It’s a gift, and gratitude should be real.

Mzati

Mzati is a Malawian music artist, producer, and creative director whose work explores emotional truth, cultural identity, and spiritual awareness within modern African society. Blending contemporary Afropop and Afrofusion with reflective, atmospheric production, he creates soundscapes that are introspective, socially conscious, and globally accessible — while remaining deeply rooted in African context.

He began his professional journey in 2008, building a reputation defined by consistency, discipline, and artistic evolution. Raised in a musical family with ties to legendary reggae figure Evison Matafale, Mzati developed an early understanding of music as a vessel for storytelling and cultural responsibility.

His 2017 album This Is Malawi established him as a voice capable of translating national identity into universal narrative. Mtolo 1 (2019) refined his emotional and sonic direction, while Inspired (2022) presented a mature, introspective phase marked by growth and resilience.

Hands-on in production, Mzati crafts his own beats and arrangements, ensuring both emotional intention and technical clarity. Performing in both English and Chichewa, he bridges local authenticity with international reach.
